Rega Cork Mat
The cork has been on the table all the years since perhaps 4 or 5 years now.
Rega cork mat. Surely if a record is lifting a mat it is because the record is charged up nothing to do with the mat. It absorbs mechanical sound partially. The aerated holes open up the overall sound of the record leading to a fuller more robust quality. The cork mat helps to eliminate static pops.
The cork turntable mats functions exactly like the rubber mat. As the material of the cork is thicker you can expect an easier time to remove it than the rubber mat. Due to the combination of cork and rubber this mat is heavier than the rest. It also dampens the resonance and helps to prevent slippage.
The rega mats were no contest for the felt wool. Additionally cork turntable mats are non stick in a gentle way. It also works to dampen resonance and vibrations which reduce the quality of the sound. The weight gives it a firms grip on the platters.
Everyone said how the music with the cork was more open more realistic more lifelike more present in the room more up front etc. This thing gets my nomination for best rega cheap tweak. It is similar to the rega felt mat which is rather ubiquitous in the hi fi world but just ever so slightly thinner and coarser feeling. The cork audiophile turntable mat is a well designed and solidly constructed cork mat that is available at an amazing price.
Additionally cork mats are less prone to static. It greatly reduces the static and dampens most extraneous sound. Cork is a lighter airy option that projects audio louder than other mats. Unlike the old felt mat this cork mat never sticks to the records when lifting them off the platter.
I ve noticed a remarkable difference in surface noise since switching to the cork it mat. This is a plain jane felt mat of thin medium thickness 2 mm i d say that comes stock with the linn lp12 turntable. The mat helps to improve traction which improves timing. I wet clean my records and have zero static problems with a standard rega felt mat.
If you eliminate the static in the record it will not lift the mat no matter what it is made of. Cork is an inexpensive upgrade that improves the sound quality significantly by reducing resonance and improving contact. The result is a tighter more focused sound. Subtle focus tightening of bass and less overall smearing of music.
Its unique as it elevates the disc for isolation and eliminates use of a clamp weight one less gadget its cheap too.
