Refinishing Floors Polyurethane
Before the finishing starts i vacuum the project the workbench and the floor.
Refinishing floors polyurethane. Low odor and low vocs. The more dust free the project and the surrounding surfaces the less work you ll have and the more flawless your finish will be. If your floor has a high traffic area where the clear finish is completely worn away wet the area with mineral spirits to see what it will look like with a coat of polyurethane. Floors in need of a clear finish that dries quickly pros.
So you will end with a blotchy looking floor. Very smooth and shiny finish. If it looks good clean the area thoroughly apply a coat of polyurethane and give it at least two days to cure. You can save thousands of dollars by adding this.
The best method is have the floor prepared for recoating as described above and then have a very thin coat of polyurethane applied to minimize finish build up. Once the finish is roughed up we put on a water based polyurethane which can be recoated in 3 hours. Oil based polys are cheaper but each coat takes about 8 hours to dry. With either finish we recommend a fresh coat every two years or whenever the floor looks worn.
Polyurethane will not make a wood floor any harder than it already is. Under the piece to be finished i spread out 6 mil poly to protect the floor from drips and spills and make cleanup easy. Easy application and cleanup.
