Raising Furnace Off Floor
The code states that appliances having an ignition source shall be elevated not less than 18 inches 457 mm above the floor in garages and the purpose of this stipulation is fire safety.
Raising furnace off floor. We were planning to place the e coil some 6 8 from the garage floor which would place the bottom of the furnace over 30 above the floor. All supply side air ducts should be sealed at the joints. Dig a pit and install a little giant float activated sump pump and pipe it to a drain. Never heard of using. It is not an old timer thing. This has me thinking that directly touching the floor might not be the best way to install its replacement. Cheap installers will use duct tape.
How would y all do it. If it would make you sleep better go for it. Elevating the bottom of the furnace off the basement floor is a sound practice. It doesn t hurt to raise the furnace or boiler off the floor though not usually necessary.
